    1. Seller has to provide trucking number and good packaging, but overall product is fine.

If you’re a gambler, then go ahead and get this card. You have at least a 1 in 3 chance it will work. In addition, Belkin has THE WORST support I have EVER seen. Trying to switch to a Pre-N network has cost me over a thousand dollars so far with only minimal success on some computers (totally random). Please keep in mind I am a professional and have been building, repairing, and troubleshooting PCs for 9 years now. Good luck

    3. I really like Belkin products and the Wireless Pre-N Router I just bought works really well..I would give the ROUTER 5 stars. However, the Pre-N “Desktop” Network Card is really anomaly. It doesn’t make any sense! I tried to install it in a Dell PC. Intuitively, I knew it was going to be a problem because you basically have to install the card upside down! Which means the status lights on the card cannot be viewed unless you get on the floor to look up at it. I then hired a computer guru that I have dealt with many times and told me that this card was NOT made for a PC; it is made for laptops only. The Pre-N router, to check if it was malfunctioning, was able to pick-up a Apple laptop a half block down the street. Therefore, the network card, with the computer in the next room, was never able to pick-up the signal; bingo! it was the network card. My computer guru suggested the Belkin USB for 802.11g with the stand. It worked right out of the box–so on that Belkin product 5 stars! And another problem though, the support for the Pre-N Desktop Network Card was really horrible. The tech on the other end had us go through hours of meaningless changing of channels on my computer.

    4. i purchased this card to work with the pre-n router the belkin offers. i should have know a better when i looked at the box that it was going to be trouble. as you can see from the picture, this is just the cardbus pre-n (f5d8010) card bundled with a pci-to-cardbus adapter. installation failed, as windows xp seems to be able to only support 16-bit pcmcia cards with the pci-to-cardbud adapter that belkin provides (ricoh r5c520-based contoller).

after multiple calls to support where they spent 10 minutes asking me if i was inserting the card correctly over and over. each call ended with either “call microsoft” or “we’ll call you back within 48 hours”. i’m still working this issue to resolution with belkin, but i don’t hold out much hope.

      RE: Dude!

dude! i did! maybe it is a compat issue with the nForce3 chipset and the ricoh adapter. i don’t know, but after replacing the card with a new one and getting the same message when the card was inserted, i quit and returned it.

“The device Ricoh R5C520 Carbus Adapter has detected a CardBus card in its slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the CardBus controller to be run in CardBus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit (R2) pc-cards on this controller.”

i’ve worked with computer hardware for 15 years, i know how to insert a carbus card, thanks.

    5. I bought this PRe-N Router, PRe-N PCI card, and PRe-N PCCard for a desktop and notebook. Two of the three products were DOA (dead on arrival). Every time, I would place the PCI card in the slot, the desktop (a new Dell) would not boot.

I spent several hours on holdwith Belkin, no one would answer with hours of hold time. Finally the call would just disconnnect. Finally I returned them to the supplier and got replacements. Now the router would get obtain an IP address from Verizon DSL. No matter what I tried.. it just would not work. If I called tech support.. of course.. same problem no one would answer.

Also, trying to set up the pre-N router with the pre-N notebook card crashes the computer. The commonly labeled products are incompatible !!!!!.

I would highly recommend to avoid this product and Belkin in general as a supplier if you need any assistance along the way.

I am now planning to throw everything out and go with Linksys or DLINK.. Im just the end.. so frustrated..and on top of it all, people consider me a networking guru..
