How can I connect my laptop to the internet without the ethernet cable?

by GeekieByte

I have a 2wire gateway and i used an ethernet cable to connect it to my desktop. I want to connect my laptop to the internet, but I found out that it won’t connect to the internet without the ethernet cable. Without the ethernet cable my laptop says it is connected to local only. What should I do?

Do you have a wireless router? if not you’ll need to buy one. With the wireless router you can access the internet with your wireless card. Do you know if your notebook have a wireless card? it should if it’s fairly new. It it doesn’t have one you’ll need to buy one usb wireless adapter or pcmcia wireless adapter for notebook.

    hope that helps

Check to see if your internet plan from your service provider has wireless service included in monthly plan, if not, you probably need to purchase a wireless route and connect to your modem. Then you can go to your laptop and pick up the wireless connection without a LAN line.
